IRON
But...
Oops!
Was the axe you dropped a silver axe?
Or was it this gold axe?
The honest Patchouli said...
COPPER
...or at least thought that and died.
Once upon a time, there was a lumberjack by the name of Patchouli.
One day, Patchouli again went in to the mountains to cut wood.
Then the fairy of the pond appeared and said:
In the first place, from panel 1, the background setup for this was impossible.
...the instant she fell, she dropped her precious axe in to the pond.
And they lived happily ever after.

Meh, I'm betting it's just an awesome homage.

1 year agoThat in itself is from some old folk tale, I think, because a variation is employed in Silent Hill 3.

1 year agoyah its the honest_axe story, its used in a lot of media and cultures fables. as well as being used in hole_of_yago's comics with Cirno several years ago (one of them has a big long discussion about the fable)

1 year agoI noticed when I was translating this, but the axes held by Cirno actually say Copper and Steel.
Hahaha, we know now not to make a ⑨ our fairy of the lake!

1 year agoEven with a silver axe I could probably buy several dozen copper and steel axes. Of course, given how the story ends, I'd just end up loosing my axe by trying that method. Also, seeing as how it's Cirno I'm impressed that the silver axe is actually made of iron, and not aluminum foil (crafts day at the local shrine). :p
