Well na, every single time someone called god "something" someone would contradict the other, god's a man, god's a woman god's not really anything.
The movie only used that actress, because in the story-line, that chick also played her boss at the abortion clinic, and she always looked up to her as a mother finger and mentor. "And mother is god in the eyes of a child - silent hill quote"
Basically, they did the whole "contact" (terrible movie by the way) thing where, she saw only what god thought her mind could handle.
