Ostrich + Raptor + Spider = This thing.

It's based on the Manambulus Perhorridus from Dougal Dixon's speculative biology book "After Man - A Zoology of the Future".

That is creepy as hell, but I'm always impressed by how well-informed LaC seems to be.

It's scary. I'm looking at it in the middle of the day and still hits a nerve somewhere.

Poor Satsuki. She gets no respect. No respect.

Thanks LaC
When did you get informed of this exactly? Did you read the book? Or was it a show?

LaC

I haven't read the book, but I remembered seeing the original picture on a website somewhere, a long time ago. It took a bit of Google-fu to trace it back.

BTW, its hand-walking is probably based on the fact that vampire bats use their powerful front limbs (ie their wings) to propel themselves when they run.

And somehow it's actually *LESS* creepy than the source material...

Reminds me of this painting by Zdzislaw Beksinski:

This is one of variations of the Nijiura version Sacchin.
The original version was a parody of Beksiński's picture.

The original concept that this... thing... is a parody of was pretty cool, though. An ecosystem made mostly out of bats whose wings have devolved back into arms and legs again, since the niche of top predators was empty.
