its not a spirit of ice
and its not made of ice
yuki onna... snow woman... someone didnt bother to do a little research they are spirits... they are not supposed to melt
They are only said to melt when the husband discovers them as a yuki onna
Well in pugyuru the yuki onna melts... but you cant take anything from that seriously

Yuki onna's are spirits of people that died in the mountains and snowstorms
They are only seen arround cold places cause they are tied to winter and cold

Letty Whiterock

Stage 1 boss. A youkai of the winter season who can be found in places without heat. Her ability mainly allows her to control cold.

Letty is happiest during winter. She gets in the way of Reimu and her companions because they threaten to put an end to her time of greatest happiness.

However, Letty and her fellow winter spirits as well as sufferers of hay fever know well that spring, a season of depression, comes every year. She accepts that fact and never attacks players seriously.

When spring comes, she will disappear to unknown whereabouts.

Cirno is exception. She has grown so strong that she could DIE ( if killed ;) ).
In Cirno's PoFV scenario Shikieiki talks about Cirno's possible death, judging her, and deciding whether she'll go to heaven or hell.

Ice fairy Cirno, on the other hand, has quite a personality, and is several magnitudes more powerful than the average fairy. When she encounters Shikieiki Yamaxanadu, the yama conjectures that because Cirno's (the strongest!) so powerful and able to move around and cause trouble, she's coming closer to becoming a youkai and therefore mortal. The conversation goes completely over Cirno's head, of course...

As Perfect Memento says, fairies have very short lifespans, but they are essentially immortal due to the fact that the reform into their former "shape," even after being completely neutralized.
