I see! That small number of empty slots is certainly a point of concern! In that case, I recommend this! The Three-Eyes series! For example, this! The Three-Eyes Necklace!
With the Three-Eyes Necklace you get three empty slots, so if you wear it instead of the one-slotted Kirin Vest, look! You get 11 empty slots total! And since it has 3 slots, you can use 3-slot-specced mastercraft gems, and with the total 9 slots you get a +1 to sharpness with no skill penalty!
Then, shall we switch the arms part to the Three-Eyes set too? This way I get 12 slots total! And I can use even more mastercraft gems and, with 8 slots, I can get another +1 to sharpness! And since I still have four slots left, combining them with one weapon slot my whetstone use will be accelerated!
Might as well change the bottom part to Three Eyes too! This way, I get whetstone acceleration without using any weapon slots! Convenient, convenient!
Let's try changing the legs to Three Eyes too! After the sharpness +1, I have 6 empty slots, and combining them with one weapon slot I can get the quake-resistance skill! That's very advantageous with Dodoblank and the likes!
Ah, but this way I don't get the skills that come with the Kirin set by default, like Runner... Sharpness +1 is convenient, but depending on the situation, Runner might be more useful, so which one should I take? Hmm, it's hard to choose...

Is it me? The Three-Eyes set has a nice pattern, so my equipment shouldn't look particularly weird...
Well, you know, the Kirin X series is convenient because it gives you good skills for a DS user right from the start, like Runner and Elemental Attack Up, but there's only 9 empty slots so if I want a great skill like Sharpness +1 I'll have to use weapon slots. I was hoping I could do something about that.
