Just thinking aloud: would there be any point in someone deliberately picking a certain model of automatic weapon, then modifying it so that it fed from the opposite side?

If you don't want hot casings ejecting in front of your face, yes.

The MG3, the Modern nearly identical in appearance Varient of the MG42, is actually a L/R Convertable MG, LH shooters may prefer the opposite feeding.
Not that LH/RH affects MG fire, personally, both systems work fine imho, although the MG42 may be different than what I'm used to.

Basing on the gear... they probably are:

Momiji - support gunner/MG
Nitori - engineer
Marisa - rifleman/riflewoman (I dunno, does it change in gender?)
Reimu - CQB specialist (seeing the M1014 and the MP5K)
Sanae - Spec. Ops. (the T89's mods... MODS!)
Aya - recon (dat FAD rifle and Galil)
Reisen - sniper (I would like to see a beta-C mag on an SL8/SL9)

In the case of the MG42/MG3, used casings drop from the bottom of the weapon and are not ejected to the side.

I didn't know it was convertible, interesting! But I am a leftie and have fired left-fed MG3's from the left shoulder countless times without problems.

-Spec Ops is not a soldier role, it's a type of soldier. And all of these girls can be considered in Spec Ops.
-I'm fairly sure that's a Cx4 Storm not a FAD.
-I don't think the MG36 is a very good sniping weapon, sure it's got the scope on it, but its a better LMG than a sniper. So Reisen is probably another support gunner, maybe a more mobile one.

Thanks.

Would appreciate weapons ID'ed in Notes, right above the image... in particular, the sniper rifle at far right which looks like a PSG-1.

It's a MG36. No sane person would put a 100-round Beta-C drum magazine on a semi-automatic sniper rifle.
