Parent/Child linking posts in the same pool

Posted under General

Why would we need to separate full fledged pools from these "sequences" you propose? Pretty much anything requiring a title comes with a title page anyway. And we don't have to do away with titles completely, we could just make them optional.

Log: I have made one or two pools just called "?[number]" for short sequences of things without a title (or whose title I didn't know). They got brought up in the "pointless pools" thread, though, since people couldn't wrap their heads around the purpose of them, for some reason (forum #21037 lol)... In any case, I don't think the current necessity of having titles is really a restriction on making a bunch of short pools, if you so desire.

But that drop-down "active pools" box on the post page is a real waste of space. It doesn't scale at all, anyway.

I forget - did we ever move forward on that old suggestion to have pools automatically flagged as inactive after a certain amount of time with no posts being added? That certainly sounds like a good way to help clean up the dropdown, at least.

But why do we even have the dropdown in the first place? I mean we don't have a dropdown box of posts to set things as children of, for example - you have to type in the parent post's ID. We have a list of recently used tags, but they are PERSONAL recently used tags, which actually makes sense. Why shouldn't you have to type in the pool's ID and/or have a personal list of pools to choose from? (In fact you could just stick those in with the recently used tags, though I don't know about the database query logistics for this.) And people should be using tag scripts to add things to pools en masse anyway, it's much faster.
