Danbooru

A question about guro

Posted under General

After posting a certain guro related picture, I had a strange thought about the guro tag. Just how much gory can a picture be before it becomes too gory for Danbooru? Are they're any specific qualities and/or actions that make a guro based picture too much for Danbooru's mind? I'm curious to know how high or low the bar is set on guro based picture because I tend to get mix messages on what is accepted and what is not when it comes to guro art.

I'll never approve a guro image. The TOS is purposefully vague on this point because we don't want every image involving blood or violence to be automatically lumped into "guro", but it's generally something to avoid.

If GT is mentioning post #783973, I think it's okay. Hate extremely detailed guro though.

That would be about as extreme an image as I could see myself approving. Definitely needs the guro tag, but just barely on the edge of what I think is inappropriate for Danbooru.

Guro is one of those tags that should be blacklisted if you don't like it and very carefully tagged.

There are plenty of high quality pictures that are guro, there is no reason to get rid of them because some people are squeamish.

Of course this only applies to tasteful pictures.

I'm inclined to think that it is not so much about exactly how much gore there is as it is about having other redeeming qualities.

Take posts like post #617114 and post #617985; there's no real content besides the gratuitous brutality. post #622785 of the same series was, it seems, flagged, reapproved and then deleted, so I guess that one at least was over the top.

I wouldn't hesitate much about uploading something like post #172917, on the other hand. It's just as gory, it just feels more... artistic, I guess, and less hateful.
