Issues when uploading images >10MB.

Posted under General

Is there any specific reason why whenever I try uploading an image >10MB it'll try uploading about <2MB then just hit some kind of stop.

Firefox just throws a "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." message at me.

Same with Internet Explorer ...

Is there any particular reason why some of your uploads are >10MB?

If you're trying to upload very large PNG files to the site -- which I imagine is the only way the filesize can climb-up that high -- you should save them as JPGs first to cut-down on the filesize. Plus it's pretty much impossible to discern the difference in quality between a PNG file and a JPG file saved at a high quality level.

What is the resolution? If they are lossy-compressed (which JPG are) and still >10MB file size, maybe the resolution is large enough to crash the thumbnailer? Just an idea, I'm not sure exactly how much it can chew through or if/how it's set to time out.

I was also having problems uploading a large (11 Mb) flash. The only solution I could find was to upload the flash file to a webserver and use that URL as the source link to have Danbooru grab the file from the webserver.

How does one do that?

On the upload form, put the URL to your file in the Source field, while leaving the File field blank. Note the text on the Upload page: "You can enter a URL here to download from a website."

This is especially handy for Pixiv posts, as Danbooru will automatically produce a proper URL from the image's location on Pixiv.
