Danbooru

Vote up

Since we're talking about voting:

IIRC before voting was restricted to priv+ you could "undo" your positive vote on a post by voting it down, and vice versa.

Why was this changed? It was quite helpful in cases where you voted accidentally or got a better look at the pic later and changed your mind. I don't think it's a technical issue with Danbooru not being able to maintain all the data, a lot less people are now able to vote than back then.

I don't recall ever being able to undo votes. It was possible to vote multiple times in certain situations, but that was only because the site only kept track of the last person who voted. You could revote as long as someone else voted in between your votes. This is probably what you're thinking of.

The site does keep track of post/comment votes now (albeit only for two weeks), so it would be technically possible to undo votes. However, if the problem is accidental voting then a better solution would be to change the interface so that it's harder to accidentally click the wrong button.

Yes, the system was set up in such a way that one could vote multiple times for a single post, that's how you could 'undo' a vote, and is what allowed the abuse that lead to the current voting system in the first place.

Well, I don't know the technical stuff, but I'm pretty sure you could do it.

Nope. It's always been restricted to one vote only. The system was just more lenient about how it tracked the state, so it was possible to abuse it if you knew how. But the ability to undo your vote was never designed in.

Rather than (or in addition to) an "Undo Vote" feature for comments, what about a confirmation dialogue box? It would make it slightly more difficult to accidentally down-vote or up-vote comments via a misplaced click.
