To me the most important thing is if the image is a parody of a series or not. A parody of a series is still a parody after it becomes a meme. If someone were to be searching for parodies of a series the meme will not show up in such a parody <copyright> search, which frankly seems to be completely incorrect. All the meme information to me really says is that it's a specific scene (or similar) parody of the series.

Well this is nothing in regards to attaching implications to memes, certainly I'm saying that the so called "redundant" tags should still be used with these images.

Your do have somehow valid point with that, but... not quite.

First and foremost, meme is not (always) parody, i.e something humorous. Therefore, entering parody <copyright> search you're not guaranteed finding your memes, at least not all of them - even now. But this is mistake I also made. In fact name_of_the_meme tag = meme + meme's_origin, and we should consider using meme tag and its implications then.

Now, the question is what we want to find entering the following search: meme + <copyright> Should we get all memes who were spawned from <copyright>, or should we get all memes are ever used in <copyright>?

From my private expierience, much more valuable and interesting answer is the latter one. That's because list of memes originated from one title is: short, well-known and static one.

For example, we want to know all memes originated from Death Note.
First, there are only two of them: just_as_planned and i_am_l. It's a short list and for lots of other titles it will be even shorter if not void.
Second, it's kinda hard not to know these memes. Of course, I won't deny - it's still possible, especially if you didn't watch/read this title (but on the other hand, why search this when not knowing the title?). Still these memes are well-known I suppose.
Finally, this list is static. As Death Note ended some time ago, we can hardly expect new memes to be spawned from this title. Of course, it's still possible yet very unrealistic. Therefore, this list is static.

Conclusion: there is perfect place to keep short, well-known and static information. It's called wiki. We should keep list of memes spawned by <copyright> in its wiki. And in fact it's being often practiced already.
We should tag memes only with meme's_name and meme tag without meme's origin, so when we use meme + <copyright> search we still get list of all memes ever applied to the <copyright>. We'll also greatly reduce informative noise when doing other queries... and we won't have long and hopeless disputes if meme is iconic enough or not anymore.
