If there is a rule saying no uploading game CG, why has so much been uploaded?

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question. It's just that besides the inconsistency, there was some Game CG I have that hasn't been uploaded that I thought was worthwhile.

We had a thread on this a while ago, but I don't see it now. It's not really that enforced, but it's there to be able to call people on the rule. Really, we're not supposed to upload, say, the virtual paper doll sets from dating sims, because they're all almost the same damn image, and it would basically be a flood of the same thing over and over.

The CGs, on the other hand, actually being, well, unique, seem to be acceptable (if for no other reason than people find it posted elsewhere and don't realize that it's a game CG; they didn't mean to break the rules then). Just don't flood with them.

Ok. There are 9 pics I got that haven't been uploaded yet that look worth uploading IMO after being selective (I have almost all the CG unlocked from this game). Should I be more selective?

If you think they're worth uploading, upload them. I don't think anyone wants to discourage people outright from contributing, you know? If you think they're good enough, and a mod agrees with you, it'll be approved.

That said, you probably shouldn't post more than a few at a time.

Thanks. I won't hold back then but I'll still only upload the stuff that I think is worth uploading instead of the redundant stuff that would only waste bandwidth.

I am not so knowledgeable about visual novels. To me, peko's illustrations are pretty much the definition of CG art. I would find it really sad if all sono_hanabira_ni_kuchizuke_wo pics were purged due to them being CGs.

Could it be that I am confused simply because average CG shit is not approved here and thus I never see it?

So, I wonder if somebody would like to enlighten me regarding the horrors of CGs.

Sono Hanabira does have above average CG, but we still shouldn't have all of it uploaded. If someone wants it all, they can damn well download the set.

This is not an all or nothing situation, there is some CG I'll approve, and some I won't, but generic images of generic girls having generic sex are most likely not going to get approved.

(and yes, having generic girls having sex with other generic girls is more likely to get approved by me.)

And I think the reason why Game CG uploads are a bit of an issue here is because they're notorious for being (as Fencedude said) generic, and uninspired. Lest we also forget the massive amounts copy/pasta content (with usually very little variation) that goes into Game CG content, too - and that does not make for good material on Danbooru.

Again, if you think it's genuinely good content, upload it. But don't also upload a billion variations of it.

In any case, just use common sense when uploading anything.

Different mods have different tolerance levels for CG. I know Hazuki in particular is not fond of them, but as far as I know he doesn't think they should be banned outright either. Personally, the higher resolution CGs get a lot more mileage with me than the older 800x600 ones. Non-explicit CGs also are more likely to get my approval, but that's just like anything else. I approve maybe one percent of all rating:explicit posts I come across in the queue.

CG isn't banned, it's just not usually good, and it's things that are not good that are frowned upon. The cautions against it are mostly coming from our experiences in the past of seeing brand new users suddenly flooding really bad CG to inflate their post count. But by no means does CG always equal bad and unacceptable.

Also, if you can tell at a glance that something is CG, that's often an indicator that it's generic (and therefore bad.) The really good CG is stuff that you often wouldn't know is CG at all unless someone told you.

Oh. I take this to be analoguous to setting limits concerning entire dōjinshi, then: "Completeness is a nice thing, but Danbooru is not the place. This site collects works of art that can stand on their own." (Or something along those lines?)

As I said, I am not very knowledgeable about visual novels. It typically goes like, one of my online friends posts an anime-style image somewhere, I want to find out about the characters, and end up browsing sites from Wikipedia to Danbooru for info, and the pic turns out to be VN related.

So, could someone mention one or two fairly well-known (preferably non-hentai) visual novels with CG art that is widely considered "generic" and "uninspired", just to give me a general idea? No links needed, I will find out about them myself.
