A pool for characters that don't generally have glasses, that is, but I was sort of wondering if it shouldn't be a tag instead. We already tag alternate_color, alternate_hairstyle, and alternate_costume which have similar overhead in meta knowledge.
This would be better as a tag, since it's not really a subjective concept and tags are generally easier to work with than pools. The only difficulty is in coming up with a concise name for it. The best I can think of is calling it bespectacled and making it clear in the wiki that it's only for characters who aren't usually seen wearing glasses.
What about the tag no glasses? I think with the proper Wiki, the concept can get across. And if you look at that tag, you can see a few people have already used that tag before.
Take, for example, post #450167. It seems the have the no_glasses tag. And when I do a search on the character, she seems to be consistently wearing glasses in other images of her.
In my opinion, I think the tag no_glasses would probably work. And if not, it should probably be aliased to despectacled. Or vice-versa, even.
Edit: Just realized the OP was talking about bespectacled. =|
We need to make sure to draw a clear distinction between bespectacled and glasses alone, and there should be an implication between the two.
My only worry is that bespectacled doesn't make immediately obvious the fact that the character usually doesn't wear glasses. By the standard definition, it would basically be synonymous with glasses.
Not too sure about this, but how would not_normally_wearing_glasses sound? I know the name's a little long and obtuse* -- but the definition would be crystal clear.
It would sound like a fair trade-off, I think, since it seems to be difficult to find a simple, clear and concise tag name to describe this attribute. Not to mention, since it has the word "glasses" in it, it would appear when you do a tag search for glasses-related tags, which would make it easier for taggers who are looking for glasses-related tags to tag images with.
On the rebound, if a Wiki was made for bespectacled, someone could find that tag, because the Wiki entry would probably have the word "glasses" in it, but it wouldn't be completely obvious (I know I'm not very well-acquainted with that word, as you can see from my earlier post. And hell, I always spell it wrong, too).
It might even be fair to alias "bespectacled" to it, or something.
I actually don't mind bespectacled despite the potential downfalls, it sounds nicer and is more concise than the full phrase. It also has the benefit of being obscure enough not to cause too many issues with layusers misusing it.
bespectacled with a wiki is fine, since we can't do something like alternate_eyewear in the style of alternate_hairstyle or alternate_color because while everyone has a color or hair to alternate from, in this case we're alternating from the lack thereof.
For the time being, I started a pool, at least. From what I can tell, it's...fairly common. I searched with glasses -takara_miyuki -queen's_blade -dennou_coil -perrine_h_clostermann -nagato_yuki (these seemed to offer the best filtering coverage judging by number of pages present) and still found about 50-odd obvious ones in the first 25 pages or so. Also, this doesn't account for the cases where a glasses character is with a bespectacled character because of that filtration.
So yeah, a tag it seems to be. I keep coming up with verbose things as is my wont (like "unusually_bespectacled" seems to be as brief as it gets), so I'll leave that to the community at-large to decide.
Hmm, I just noticed we don't have a bespectacled→glasses implication. The way we defined it, I don't see how there could possibly be an exception to this rule, so it might be helpful if we added it.
