This was discussed before (maybe in forum #11096 but if not I can't find the actual thread) and it was overwhelmingly ritona but that was like a year ago.

Looking over that thread, it doesn't really seem anyone felt strongly one way or the other there. It should be "Littner" if it's the official spelling.

This. I never even knew she had a surname until I saw it here on DB.

I guess it's just meant to be a name she took on later, or rather an "official" name that isn't actually used in the show (that I remember). Sort of how Nia is called Nia Teppelin (both that and Ritona/Littner being their respective hometowns) even though I don't think she's ever really called that in the show either.

Of course, Simon and Kamina were never known as Simon Giha or Kamina Giha. =P

I'm with FeKa on the "no ANN" count, by the way. I know it's stated somewhere on the site here that ANN is the de facto source, but honestly, their character names are a mess (and, much like Wikipedia, can be edited/submitted by practically anyone).

Yoko's full name is used a bunch of times in episode 26 (and subbed as Littner on dvd)

EB said: Her name in Japanese is ヨーコ・リットナー. It's not リトナ, so Ritona doesn't make as much sense as Littner in my opinion.

Aliasing to Littner, particularly based on the latter.

Seem said: That's how the creators have always spelt it, and the way it's spelt on literally everything in existence where her name is written in English.

Which doesn't necessarily mean anything, although in this case it's quite a gray area and could go either way.

Argument for Youko:
 Long vowel noted
"Yo(u)ko" is a Japanese name in our world
 Everyone uses it

Argument against Youko:
There's no particular reason to believe she's Japanese
 "Family" name is not Japanese
 Written in katakana
Simon not spelled exactly according to Japanese despite Shimon/シモン/子門 being a legitimate Japanese name [1] [2] (Yes I know the assumption is Simon the Western name)

So yeah, I don't care if it's Yoko or Youko but given her circumstances I don't think it would be a violation of Danbooru policy to leave her Yoko.
