Creating posts with the API

I am having difficulty using the API to create/upload a post, specifically I am having trouble with the post[file] field.

If I use post[source] and point it to an image hosted somewhere, it works fine. But I want to upload it directly.

The server returns an error code of 500.

How can I solve this problem?

Upload it without putting a source, then edit the post and you can put whatever source in the source field (such as a webpage, doujinshi, etc)

Are you inputting the field properly?

It's not trivial. If you want to do it in JavaScript, check the danbooruup code.

The upload API uses the same code as the HTML upload page, so if that works the XML response should work also. Maybe your HTML library is incorrectly formatting the multipart form data?

I worked out the problem, the post[source] field needed to be specified, I thought it was optional when post[file] was provided. I was wrong.
