Question about #girls and #boys tag

But then, that'd be uneven, and there might could be yuri with male characters present, in whatever facility

*Ahem*. The word you were looking for is "capacity". I don't want to sound threatening, but have you considered using a damn dictionary?

The male tag seems to handle if there are males present in a pic with females. I saw the history for it, and how it evolved.

That's is totally not how male is defined. It says so right in the wiki, and that's how it's always been used -- it's gotta have no females (or very de-emphasised ones) to be properly male.

edit it back, but I would like more answers for some kind of final. Unless this will just end up an open type of tag?

As far as I'm concerned, all the #girls tags are kinda silly the way they're used now. 2girls was supposed to be an antidote for the rampant yuri tagging, and then it somehow morphed into a simple counter. So if we go there, we could just as well allow non-females to be present; you can just search for -*boys. Although that highlights a flaw in what we have at the moment: there's 2boys, but no 1boy to match, so you have no way to catch a "2 girls, one boy" type of pics.

Frankly I think it'd be worthwhile to change male to male_only and create a mixed_gender tag. Female only images make up the vast majority of images on danbooru, with mixed gender images likely being 2nd most populace, and then male only images being the least populace of the 3 groups. This would allow people to be able to search between the 3 groups without the insanity of trying to tag all the female only images, while tightening the male tag. The name of the tag name male and the definition: "overwhelming emphasis on male characters" seems to have only resulted in some people to take that to mean "if there is any male in the image." For female only searches one could then simply do a -male_only -mixed_gender search without getting into all the past yuri/platonic issues.

It wouldn't resolve the issue brought up above, but it'd at least those two changes would at least be able to work with the #gender tags.

Anyways just thinking out loud.

Mixed gender might only be the second most common image type, but that is a damn lot of images nonetheless, and most will be porn. I really don't think it needs a tag, honestly.

I checked 20 pages, and glancing at the 400 thumbnails only found 6 images (which I have since fixed) that improperly had a male tag on them. I don't think the tag name is causing a problem. No more than we would lose if we called it male_only and people omitted it from images where there's just an incidental female who shouldn't be disqualifying the image for the tag.
