just checking, is uploading content behind a paywall (if the uploader has access to it) simply frowned upon, or straight up not tolerated on the site at all?

Paid rewards of any kind are completely banned. Please do not upload them.
If there are variants that aren't paywalled, you may absolutely link the paywalled variants (assuming the artist's commentary does not) and tag paid reward available though. You just can't upload the paywalled versions in these cases.
