Mass editing artists (common hosting/blog issues)

Posted under General

Just a general warning to people with mass edit powers using them to do artists. Be careful with the common blogging services and their shared root URLs.

Some 'moemoedoll' images got tagged 'rt' because they share the same beginning to their image URLs - http://blog-imgs-2.fc2.com/m (I just fixed it though)

But the URLs are actually different. They actually have multiple but here's a good example:
moemoedoll - http://blog-imgs-11.fc2.com/m/o/e/moemoedoll/0927_mimic_a.jpg
rt - http://blog-imgs-11.fc2.com/m/a/g/magicmachinery/yomako_top.jpg

If you mass edit on the http://blog-imgs-11.fc2.com/m stem you get images that aren't actually that artist. I've made this mistake before, and sadly I'm sure I haven't always caught it, but I usually take pains to make sure the stem I'm mass editing on is perfectly unique to that artist. Sometimes it's not easy with the hosting services. Sometimes it's literally impossible, as they generate a completely random URL with no connection to the artist's site.

Before I save, I do a preview and take a random selection (upwards of 10 depending on how many results there are) and open them in new tabs and mouse over the URL to verify I'm getting all the right images.

At any rate, I didn't even look to see who did it so I'm not singling anyone out, and hell I've done it before. And it's not even a guarantee that this what happened here, but it COULD. Just bringing it up since it seemed like a good example. And in case any newer users become mods or whatever and aren't familiar with the powerful but sometimes tricky mass edit.
