Gradient eyes?

Posted under General

Not sure if it's perfect, but heterochromia might suit your needs. It's used in situations where characters have different coloured eyes, too, but it can also mean what you're getting at with "gradient eyes". All it means is different colours in the eyes; not that each eye specifically is a different colour.

Not sure if it is necessary, but thinking about what would fall under gradient eyes versus partial heterochromia, I think you have somewhat two different but similar concepts.

Partial Heterochromia should require that there are at least two distinct eye colors in the iris, but gradient eyes doesn't necessarily mean that the iris is two colors.. it could mean that the eye color is in a gradient which could be more due to lighting or a representation of the condition the character is in (depressed, moody, etc).

On partial heterochromia, I think that needs to have it's own tag, if there are imagines needing it. I have nothing against it also going under heterochromia, just that complete heterochromia is so much more represented that to be able to find partial heterochromia you'd require a specific tag.

Indeed, heterochromia doesn't necessarily mean that the eyes are separate colours (like Yuna from FFX). If the eyes were predominantly blue, for example, but with an amber ring around the outside, that would also be heterochromia (albeit a partial manifestation).

This actually links in to what NWF Renim said - that because both complete and partial heterochromia fall under the same tag heterochromia, it might be prudent to give partial heterochromia its own tag, as it would otherwise be subsumed by the far greater quantities of art depicting complete heterochromia. Perhaps the partial heterochromia and gradient eyes could be somehow combined into a separate tag, so as to distinguish them from the more common different coloured eyes.
