Solo: clarification

Posted under General

So, in light of our recent discussion of the tag, I've been trying to apply solo more often. I've run into a few questionable pictures in the process. So let's get a consensus going on a few issues with the tag.

First off, should tagged pets or mecha be counted as characters when appearing with one human character? For instance, would a picture of Ayanami Rei with Eva 00 in the background be solo or not? What about Anemone with her pet Gulliver? I'm leaning towards solo being applicable in both cases, but I'd like some opinions.

Second, what about images with random body parts or figures having sex with or interacting with a tagged character? Things like post #470310 make me hesitant to use solo, because there is more than one person there. But they're really just extras, so at the same time I almost feel like they shouldn't be counted. Thoughts?

I would not use solo in that case because a user could search for Eva 00 + solo to find posts of Eva 00 without the pilots, other mecha, or angels.

What Solijashy said about "Random bodyparts"

There are some 'sex' based pics, that I hesitate to put the Solo tag on. If there is a full bodied person there (no face), then I don't put solo. Yet for ones that had some bodyparts... I did put it. Cause the focus was on the character.

Then you have the images that have a little "crowd" or walking people.

For the Eva's. It is a bit odd to not count them as seperate from the human characters. Then there are other mecha series with one character stand next to a mecha.

I still don't like the solo tag (still want that metatag...) but I think the criteria for it should be "are there any other individuals in this image who would get a char: type tag?" if not, it's solo, even if there are people in the background, or nameless individuals having sex with them, etc. So I agree with Soljashy, only identifiable/taggable characters count - after all, that's how a character:1 metatag search would work, and that's what seems best.

As for mecha, in most series they won't count but I guess something like Eva is an exception.
