[Help] How to use Danbooru

Posted under General

1) is this site always so slow? Im constantly getting the network timed out error. Site took too long to respond. Im using firefox, can I somehow increase the timeouts?

2) How can I upload multiple images? I have them categorized but there is no artist or anything. just 50k files or something.

2)Im really confused, how does the system work?

For example: Usually there is a list of all the categories. Then you click on a category & you see all images that are inside the category.

How can I list all categories or at least all unique tags so I can keep track what categories I have seen.?

1) The site is really slow today, don't know why. It was fine yesterday

2) You don't. You can currently upload 10 images (as shown in your profile), those images have to be approved by a Janitor/Moderator/Administrator, and if approved, you gain the upload slot back. If you upload good images that are approved frequently, you will gain more uploads, if you upload crap that no one wants, you will lose uploads.

As for the rest, if you don't understand tagging, well, I don't really feel like explaining basic concepts 101 to you.

I know what the tags are. You can use them to tag images for example. But there must be a list of all unique tags somewhere.
1) So the tags are like categories. But all i see are some random tags on the left side of the site.

2) What are pools? how can I upload my images into the pool?

3) If I click on a tag, it will show me loads of images. Are those images taken from the pools?

There is. It is left as an exercise for you to find it for yourself. Its not hard. Also there are a bajillion tags, so I don't really see why you want a list of ALL of them. Thats doing things backwards.

They aren't categories, they are tags. And the tags on the left are tags that have been used in recent uploads, it will change over time.

2) What are pools? how can I upload my images into the pool?

A pool is a way of grouping images into a sequential order You don't "upload" into a pool, you upload an image and if it needs to be put into a pool, you place it in the pool. Most images do not belong in pools.

3) If I click on a tag, it will show me loads of images. Are those images taken from the pools?

They are taken from the database. Obviously.

Also, read the freaking help files already.

let me see if I understand this right now.

You upload an image & tag it as large_breasts, It is placed into the "database". tag & image are now connected.

If someone clicks the tag he will see all images under large_breasts tag

Ok I found the tag list. thanx for information.

How do you keep a track of the latest added images? Can I see all latest added images?

Just to be clear though, it is almost never a good idea to tag a picture with only one tag. Get a feel for the tags we use here, and use as many as them as you can that reasonably describe the picture. That way your image will show up in any relevant search (and in peoples tag subscriptions etc.), and not be buried under tens of thousands of new posts never to be seen again.

Also the most important tags when you have them available are the artist, copyright (series, manga, movie, whatever), and character tags. If you don't know them it's fine, but whenever you do, always include them.

Sort of off topic, but why are they called pools anyway? Shouldn't they be called sequences or something? Or we could use "series", but that would be easily confused with "copyrights", I guess.

When I see the word "pool", I automatically think of something that is explicitly not ordered.

Flickr has pools, but I suppose they also have sets that are implicitly ordered, and don't put the pools in slideshows. If you think about it though, all of Danbooru is ordered (hence the previous & next links on every post).

Prior to the pools, we just edited those previous and next links manually. I'd guess "pool" was meant to emulate the Flickr idea but kept the sequentialness that had already been being used.

I think of (one definition of) a "pool" as a designated area where you lump like things with some connection together. There are, of course, lots of other words that mean the same thing. But in that sense "pool" never struck me as an unusual word choice. As shinjidude noted, danbooru pools aren't all necessarily ordered either, though probably most are.
