Tag Implication: martian_successor_nadesico_-_prince_of_darkness -> martian_successor_nadesico

I agree, except that we should really imply kidou_senkan_nadesico (or "nadeshiko", but it's so entrenched I'm willing to accept Nadesico as a proper name and not just a simple misromanisation). And no, it doesn't deserve any exceptions, I've known it by this name way before I learnt about the stupid official translation of the title.

Doesn't matter. We have a rule of using Japanese titles as canonical, there are multiple English titles in use (Martian Successor vs. Mobile Battleship), and the original title enjoys wide currency in the English-speaking world. Thus there are absolutely no reasons to implicate anything else but kidou_senkan_nadesico.

"Martian Successor Nadesico or Mobile Battleship Nadesico (機動戦艦ナデシコ, Kidō Senkan Nadeshiko?) (often shortened to Nadesico)[1] is a science fiction comedy anime TV series, and a later manga series created by Kia Asamiya. The manga, published in English by CPM Manga, is significantly different from the anime."

Fansubs sir. They have been there years before any official release.

I've known it by this name way before I learnt about the stupid official translation of the title.

The point is that while it probably should be "kidou senkan" (I would object vociferously to "nadeshiko" however), the fact that you knew it that way first is, quite frankly, immaterial and if someone else had used that to justify their position you would have gone off on them.

Oh, no, I didn't mean "I knew it this way, so you're all obliged to follow". It was a simple pre-emptive strike against the kind of drama Spice and Wolf vel. Ookami to Koushinryou generated, ie. "no-one ever used this title in these parts".

I didn't think a simple implication request would create such a heated discussion. I really do dislike this website's policy of forcing every show to take on a Japanese name(JJBA - seriously?) when there is a widely accepted and reasonable English title available.
Given this website's users are exposed to the English titles of most anime and games is it really necessary to force everything the Japanese name?

Sure if the English name was a strange and drastic change made by the dubbers, then its okay to keep the original, but martian_successor_nadesico is accepted by the original creators and their partners as a good English title for their show so I don't see why we can't keep it.

If you look on various Japanese websites relating to the show like
Bandai: http://animejapan.cplaza.ne.jp/b-ch/nadesico_tva/nadesico_tva.html
King Records: http://www.kingrecords.co.jp/SCR_CATALOG/060.html
Xebec: http://www.production-ig.co.jp/xebec/sakuhin/sakuhin.htm (near the bottom)

The OP of the show has also always offered martian_successor_nadesico under the Japanese title.

All these places offer a relevant and adequate English sub-title so why bother changing it?

If the official policy is so adamant on JP names then why not change neon_genesis_evangelion -> shin_seiki_evangelion?

Discussing this policy yet again is both unnecessary and outside of the scope of this thread. We chose that way, so we stick to what we decided.

It's not actually "adamant", as can be seen from many recent discussions. That said, I'd actually favour this change, it's not like the JP title is completely unknown in the English fandom.
