So, upon uploading a couple images to Danbu over the past couple days, it's come to my attention that we don't really have an entirely appropriate tag for pants like this: post #455310. Or if we do, I don't know about it. I'm not convinced "harem pants" is an acceptable description of these puffy pants. As I mentioned in commentary on the picture, I'm pretty sure harem pants are generally understood to be transparent, or at least translucent. And besides, even if harem_pants is acceptable for that image, it really wouldn't work for post #454771.

Google results of "harem pants" seems to be fairly identical to the images we have of that kind of pants. Just going off the google image results, it seems that the name is more about the shape of the pants than the material they're made of. A few of the images do show some of the pants ending just a bit under the knee instead of ending at the ankle.

Either style in the linked images would be harem pants. They're basically women's loose pants that fit closely at the ankle, though men do wear them, too. They don't need to be transparent to be considered such.

It looks like in the second image they're just tucked into the boots, anyway.

If harem pants is no good, then I'd suggest pantaloons as a gender-neutral alternative since the phrase harem pants is derived from "harem pantaloons," popularized in the 1910s.

Wikipedia says that sirwal are also known as harem pants, but they're actually different in that they don't have a close-fitting ankle. Then again, it would work for a Danbooru definition because I doubt it would come up much, and not many people would care.

I don't think the close-fitting ankle in a common feature in the sirwal/shalwar pants. A similar style of pants to these seems to be called lounge pants.

Looking around google I've found these other names for harem pants:

  • afghan pants
  • aladdin pants
  • balloon pants
  • genie pants
  • pantaloon pants

Personally I'm somewhat favoring balloon or genie pants.

I'm not sure. His pants do seem like they'd fall under it, but it seems like other character's in the series might have pants that would full under that category as well (at least depending on the artist) post #45661, post #46195, post #46735.

In general we want something for pants like post #348297 without deviating too far from that. I guess anything that looks like you're wearing bags over your legs tied around the ankle or slightly above would qualify for this type of pants.

Indeed, the uniform used by the students of Muten Roushi also includes that kind of pants, but it becomes less obvious after they start wearing boots, while Piccolo always sticks to low shoes.
