Danbooru

deviantART Script?

Posted under General

Alright, so Pixiv posts have some scriptage (the technical stuff is beyond me) that will create a suitable source from entering the image's URL, right? Can this be adapted to DeviantArt sources? Danbooru's more focused on Japanese-sourced material, but DA isn't that infrequent. Currently the source field for 'em is either the image's page (with the image title in the URL, though there is some form more alike to Danbooru's where it's just the upload number) or the image itself. Practically the same? Would it be easy, hard, taxing on the servers/system?

Mostly it'd be pointless. dA doesn't check referrers, I believe, so there's no special incentive to teach the system about it, as there is for pixiv, and it'd be annoying to do, as the URL doesn't follow any particular scheme. Though I guess the fact the image links are useless for artist identification would be some motivation, but then, how many dA images make it through the queue?

Now, to be fair, pixiv has roughly the same proportion of worthless garbage (some 99.9% or so). We just care more, because all the good artists are there as well.

The Find Artist function works with DeviantArt?

I didn't actually check. I can't remember if the Find Artist algorithm compares domains, but if it does then it should work (since the artist's name is part of the domain in the URL for an image's page).

Yes it does.

When I upload from dA, I always use page URLs rather than image URLs because the former start with a unique artist handle (with the format artist.deviantart.com), and Find Artist works out of the box.

IIRC, Find Artist tries to find the maximum length match among the URLs included in artist entries, starting from the beginning of the URL, with a few hardcoded exceptions (like ignoring the server number in Pixiv).

Pixiv image URLs include a unique identifier that makes it possible to infer the page URL (which danbooru does), but dA image URLs don't have such a thing.

tl;dr: evazion is right. With deviantART posts, use the URL of the page as the source.
