replace images

What should I do if I have a much higher res scan of an image that is already in the system?

I noticed this because I uploaded a much higher res image of Cassandra that is already in the system, but it didn't seem to get accepted by admins. Maybe the admin didnt notice that the one I uploaded was much larger than the existing one.

So I was just wondering what the process would be to replacing something that is already in the system.

My advice is to leave a comment after you post, with a link to the old, smaller post. just type "this is a high res version of 'post #xxxx'" where xxxx is the post id# and leave off the quotes.

But if the mod doesn't allow the one I posted to go through because they think its a duplicate, how would I be able to link them in a comment. Since the one I posted doesn't exist if it's not out of the queue.

Ah, so basically they can up the post but can't make the comment? That makes sense, if they could see the unapproved posts as just members, then the approval process would be meaningless.

Hmm. If only they could see their own posts, so they could leave the comment.

Yup pretty much. No special consideration appears to be given to posts you submit in terms of visibility. Us plain members also can't see posts we submitted that aren't rated as safe (nor is there any way to see if a non-safe pic has been approved). The interface for non-priv members leaves something to be desired in several regards.

As far as the issue at hand, how about a new tag? Something like "hi-res_dupe" or some such?

I'm up this idea.
My last uploaded images are not accepted because the administrators have think they coming from the game but it's not that.
So, if we can see ours last uploaded pictures (with a little (engoing to approve) upper the picture), i think that would be a great advance. :)

Seeing our own unapproved posts as uninvited members could be a good thing I think. (questionable and explicit included if possible...)

What is the point of uploading questionable and explicit pictures, without being able to see if it already exists beforehands? O_o

And how about higher resolutions of images already tagged highres? should we add them? The tag name "absurdres" kinda make them seem... absurd XD
Unless you want to print a poster :D

for example, I got the 3720x3189 .png version of
post #96164

and how do we warn mods it's a picture of higher resolution right now? I'm kinda confused where/how to add the comment mentioned above, and how it's possible

I wasn't speaking (in my case) about pictures that already exist. I upload questionable and explicit pics at the moment even if I'm not an approved member.

I know you were not speaking specifically about already existing pictures. My point was if everyone upload questionable and explicit pics without being able to find out if they already exist beforehand, it will probably increase dramatically the quantity of duplicates, and give a hard time to mod/people that try to remove duplicates.

That's why I personally don't upload anything more "questionable" than this for example. post #143055
which I think is still "safe" but close to "questionable", so I suppose if it already existed, it should have been rated "safe".

If an image is an exact dupe (MD5 hash matches up), then the uploader will tell you that and your post will not be added. So don't worry about it too much.

I see, didn't know the uploader was checking that
