Tag Implication: guitar_pick -> plectrum

Implicating: guitar_pick -> plectrum.

Reason: Plectrum would be considered the more technical term for a guitar pick.

Would it be fine if images such as post #190054 and post #438780 were tagged with plectrum as well?

We could do an implication instead, seeing as how all guitar picks are plectrums but we can still add other things that are plectrums but not guitar picks like the examples Renim gave.

Alright, I'm in favor of going with an implication instead due to Renim's two examples. I wouldn't doubt that there's more already existing posts that can be applied to this.

Someone's going to have to go back and add guitar_pick to everything but yeah I would edit the title, just because it was a unilateral decision that changed the tag in the first place.

I don't see a need for a guitar_pick separate from plectrum. You can always search for "guitar plectrum" anyway. An alias is fine.

Checking the change history on some plectrum posts, it appears Nanami did it, though others may have been behind it as well.

I'll do the implication guitar_pick > plectrum for now. It sounds like an alias would be incorrect.

Nobody is ever going to tag the built-in plectra of a harpsichord, really.

What is the policy for tagging things like this anyway? Shamisen plecta probably almost exactly follow the same instances as shamisen_(instrument) does.

We have bow_(instrument) as well which is almost a direct parallel. I tend to only tag it if it's isolated or otherwise very important. Otherwise it would occur on almost every violin, viola, and cello post.

On a slightly even more tangential topic it always bugged me that that the cat gets precedence when it comes to shamisen.

You can tag those with bachi (撥), if you really want, but personally I would just tag them with plectrum. I don't see the problem.

That should be changed.

Probably because the instrument has far less posts and it wasn't even a tag until a few months ago.

There are a number of things like this that seem redundant, but danbooru seems to have adopted a policy of always erring on the side of tagging more. Granted I have various issues with that but it's how things are done.

I took his point to be that guitar picks are quite visually distinct from other kinds of plectra we might see on danbooru, and we'd want an implication rather than an alias. It seemed to make sense to me. That's why I brought it up.

Well, yes, I was kinda wondering that too. But people get kinda uppity when you tell them something they're interested in doesn't need to be tagged at all, so I wasn't going to bother making that argument. People are going to tag guitar picks regardless, so we might as well discuss how it should be handled from the assumption that it'll continue to be tagged.

@Apollyon: I was thinking of the same idea before you brought this up, but I didn't know at the time if I would go for an alias or an implication. Thanks for bringing it up.
