Danbooru

Tagging and the approval of posts.

Posted under General

After poking though phane's "How (Not) To Use Danbooru" thread, I'm curious: Are the tags applied to an image when it is uploaded used to determine if it will be approved or not? On the Danbooru of old, I'd often upload a set with a few general tags, and then apply tags more specific to the image by editing it after the upload. I found that getting a set uploaded and tagged properly was more streamlined than trying to do it all from the upload page. This is mainly due to the fact that I can have the image in front of me so as to inspire more complete and accurate tags.

Obviously, we can't do that with the current moderation scheme. So my question is, will a rockin' image with crappy tagging not make it in? Should uploaders go ahead and fully tag the image from the upload page?

A "rockin'" image would probably make it in anyway.

I don't think it's realistic that someone would be able to tag a picture's characteristics with 100% relevancy across multiple uploads. That's why we get to fill in the blanks later, with the editing system.

Yeah, that's my thinking. Just looking for some community validation. :)

Not necessarily, though it helps. I'm more likely to approve a borderline image if it's fully tagged. But the content of the image itself is paramount, and if I see an undertagged image that is otherwise acceptable, I'll just add the tags myself and approve.

As someone else suggested, the firefox danbooruup extension takes care of that, but it's not quite working at the moment. I still use it anyway though for pure convenience, and after adding the tags I just open up the upload page and paste them in.
