Sort of going off the "other characters from the same series" thing, one thing I've found with tagtypes is that if I search 'related characters' on a lot of posts, I'll get a lot fo characters that aren't from that series at all.
Now sure, duh, that's because it's the characters related to ALL the tags... including panties and breasts and megami and thighhighs and all the other common tags that aren't show specific.
One solution[?] would be for it to only consider (copyright) tags when calculating relevance for related character, if that's possible. So instead of bringing up all the characters most relevant to EVERYTHING, including thighhighs and such, it is more likely just to bring up characters from the specific series. Even if there's a couple series tags (not too common), the result would still be manageable. Or vice versa, searching on related copyright could look only at characters, and searching on related artist could look only at copyright and character.
Of course, then you run into problems for copyrights that aren't tagged as such yet though.. still, tagtypes seem to have become quickly become more or less ubiquitous for any series that's remotely popular. (It was adopted far faster than I had hoped even when I suggested the idea... being able to assign them ourselves has made it go exceptionally quickly.)
And, I guess... someone just might WANT to search on characters related to sarashi or japanese_clothes, I guess, and I wouldn't want to shut them out completely ::shrugs::
Still, generally it works fine, so it's not crucial either way. And if I really need to, I can just ctrl+x all the unwanted tags, leave the relevant tag I want related tags for in the list, get what I want, and then paste back in the other tags.
Still though, if there were a way to more clearly attach characters to copyrights and vice versa, it would be nice. ::shrugs::
