Pop-up for when a tag is used which had a recent Wiki change

Posted under Bugs & Features

As the title implies, this is a sort of feature request so that we can have a "pop-up" when general and meta tags are used which had their wiki page changed in the last 1-2 weeks.

They could be called "toaster" here actually, anyway, same type of message you get when using a new tag, or artist.

This is because i've noticed recently that we changed several popular tags to mean something else. Changes which, people that don't re-read the wiki every time, or which don't check the forum 2-3 times a day had no way of knowing about.
So, most of our community.
As a result people kept using the tag the way they used to.

A prompt like this would help raise awareness to these changes, even if it might get spammy to the user.

Any objections to this? Or thoughts on improvement?

A prompt like this would help raise awareness to these changes, even if it might get spammy to the user.

The problem is that if it's too spammy people will ignore it. Nobody wants to be told to re-read a wiki just because a spelling error was corrected.

Therefore there should be a way to mark changes as important and only for those a message should be shown

Having to mark every wiki edit as important/unimportant seems intrusive. Also, you wouldn't want to get a popup every single time you added the tag, especially if you already know about it. You only need to be notified once.

I'd suggest instead dmailing people who use the tag. This would require a) a way to identify users of a given tag, and b) a way to mass send dmails. These things could potentially be done with a bot, without site changes.
