I discovered this "suit jacket" tag and found it to be the same as the already used suit. Usually I'd suggest to just alias the smaller to the larger; however in this case I think the opposite would be be an improvement. "Suit jacket" is more intuitive to how we actually use the tag and the usage should be codified a bit as well.

Suit jacket communicates to the user that the way to specify the color of a suit is to pair it to a jacket color tag, i.e. you would know right away to tag a black suit would be "suit_jacket + black_jacket." And as the wiki already states, suits are a type of jacket. Having things like "black suit" to compete with black jacket just needlessly inflates the number of tags we have just as "pink kneehighs" would needlessly compete with pink legwear.

So please consider and as always please contribute your own thoughts.

Also I'm not sure how to treat a tag such as dress_suit.

Been a few days, wondering if anyone would agree with this. There should be some changes to the request however I'd like to see what people say before editing.

Your reasoning seems solid. But there is no wiki for suit jacket. How do we define it?

What about this combination:
dress_shirt +vest + pants
That would also be a suit, but does suit_jacket fit then?

I'd also very much question whether a suit jacket by itself is enough to be described as formal. Does post #2671619 (warning:NSFW) really want the formal tag? I don't think suit jackets = formal, particularly if said item isn't actually being worn.

Very much this. There are suit jackets, and then there are suit jackets. One can be formal, the other semi-formal or even casual.

Besides, much like kuuderes_shadow said, the applicability of the formal tag is very situational. It all depends on the context of the image.

Rejected since it's just clogging the system. I have plans to overhaul this concept but too many other things have prevented me from putting my focus into danbooru to get this right. Will request it in a long while.
