Her real name is revealed fairly early.

I'm not familiar with the series. Is she referred to her real name or Gunpuku more frequently?

Once her name is revealed, she's often just called Altair.

She's not referred to as Altair until after it is revealed to the greater cast in Episode 7, but her name is revealed to the audience in text by the character Souta in the literal last minute of episode 5.

Up until the very end of episode 5, her name is unknown and it is something in the plot where it's consider important to the cast to try and discovery who she is and also who her creator is.

It might be fine, because even knowing her real name from the start wouldn't let the viewer know who she is or who her creator is. Re:creators totally fail as a mystery in that regard, unfortunately.

Well admittedly it is pretty much a battle anime throughout most of the first cour and almost all of the second cour.

I think the alias is fine. I imagine some users when first watching the anime might go and search for fanart of her and go "altair? that's her name?", but it's not really much of a spoiler when you consider the fact that it doesn't reveal any important details. As you say.
