Danbooru

Uploading Yorihime manga

Posted under General

It's been a while since I've made a post asking for uploading advice, mainly because I've been pretty confident recently. However, this one kind of has me confused. First off, I'm not even sure what the title is, or if there is a consistent title. It's a series that's been going on since 2013. Everything seems to be on Pixiv... I think. Since I don't understand the language, it's hard to tell what's what. The numeration is much simpler in the more recent pages, but the early entries have sort of thrown me for a loop (are there two Chapter 2s?), and I'm not sure what's part of the main storyline and what isn't.

Additionally, the comic features reinterpretations of Touhou characters, characters that I think are from canon backstories/lore, and characters that are probably original. Again, without understanding the language, it's very had to tell. I'll definitely need help tagging, if I do indeed upload this.

Finally, I just want to make sure that there's enough interest to justify the considerable amount of time this would take.
All advice/feedback is very much appreciated.

Personally, I wouldn't upload it. I've been getting the impression lately that danbooru is trying to cut back on these kinds of quantity over quality comic series and this looks way too low quality, even the more recent pages.

I'm not sure what gets you to that conclusion. I certainly haven't been getting any memos about people pushing for more or less of specific types of content. If there's anything, it's a matter of how many translators there are, and what they want to work on. Tonda's Macho Admiral series was probably the most "quantity over quality" in art style, but it was rather well loved and had almost immediate translation. Even now, people trip over themselves to get to Ichimi's, which tends to have quality "main story" pages followed by sketchy "asides".

If you want something like this where story is going to carry it, you'd really need to find a translator that is willing to translate a really long series, because it will be meaningless otherwise. (And before you ask, I already have three ongoing series where people are complaining how far behind I am, and there's another three or so I really want to do that everyone else has completely forgotten about, so no, I'm not taking on another one...)

It would take me quite a while to read through all this, of course, since there's hundreds of pages, and they're not exactly well-organized in a handy little pool like we have, but I could do a few key bubbles you point out fairly quickly if you wanted.

(For example, to give a pretty rough/fast trans under the link "more recent pages," the pregnant Yorihime says, "Soon enough, Toyohime will have a little sister."
Toyohime: "You mean it'll be a girl?! Hooray!"
Yorihime: "Yagokoro-sama, Shikuyomi-sama is..."
Textbox: "The rarely-seen figure of Shikuyomi appeared to be watching the scene with some interest."
Eirin's aside: Because the plan has been forgotten
Eirin's thoughts: Although I was going to keep quiet, since I've been consulted on this, I can't help it.
Eirin: Just relax and leave it to me.
Yorihime: Thank you very much.
Textbox: And so Yorihime gave birth that afternoon.
Aside: Waaah! Waaah!)

EDIT: I can say, however, that, because the commentary links "previous" (前) strips, it appears he retconned/scrapped some of the older stuff, and/or wrote a whole new story. The page I just translated, which is the most recent page, is page 6 of chapter 12, and that story starts here.

Just click the link to the right of "次" (next) to go forward from there.

I'll be honest, that's what I'm most worried about. Crimson's Creed got a really disappointing result, as well as other manga I've uploaded that have gone untranslated, and I value my time more than that.
Who knows, though. Maybe some translator would really like it.

Well, in that case, you might want to send messages to any translators who might be interested, to see if they're up for it. Keep in mind most users, translators included, don't read the forums.

I had assumed that was a major faux pas, or I would have been doing it for a while.

Well, you certainly don't want to go bugging people further if they say they don't want to be bothered, and I generally wouldn't do it if I hadn't really spoken to someone before, but people do send messages to translators. (That's basically what Provence did when he included the @ to message me, as well...)

Well, Levander seems to be interested, so assuming the first pages get approved, I guess I'm doing this.

Also, in that recent page you gave a rough translation of, I think that's supposed to be the Watatsuki sisters' mother. Not that it matters, but that's exactly what I meant about the confusing characters.

Hmm... well, this puts me somewhat on the spot, then... I wouldn't mind approving it if Levander is going to be persistent in translation, but the translation has holes, and the images have a "poor quality", which I don't want to overturn without strong reasoning.

EDIT: OK, then, after asking about for some more opinions, @NWF_Renim has voiced support for it, so you should feel free to go ahead at the pace that Levander is comfortable translating.

Updated

Hm. As I already answered to NWSiaCB, I did originally say I'd translate it, but I didn't quite realize the scope and style of the story at the time. That's my bad, really. The comic being as long, plot-twisty and seemingly weird as it is, I'm afraid I can't really promise such a continuous, extended translation project on my part. Sorry about that.
