Parent/child for short sequences, and reordering child posts

Posted under General

Using parent/child relationships for short sequences of images (2-3, maybe 4) has come up multiple times in the past: topic #9653, topic #13182, topic #11401.

help:post relationships still promotes using a Pool for even the smallest sequence. Personally, I agree with Log that short sequences are fine for parent/child relationships, and think the post relationships wiki page should reflect that.

Unfortunately, sometimes these posts are out of order, e.g. the children of post #2684441 (pages 3 and 4 should be swapped). I thought I saw another non-pooled short comic recently that was out of order and then fixed, but I can't find it now; maybe I'm just going crazy. Is there any way to reorder/rearrange child posts?

With image sequences of 2, parent/child relationships are tolerable.

More than 2 though should be a pool. I personally find it awkward to have to go to click a thumbnail to move forward or backward through a sequence instead of using the keyboard hotkeys that come with pool navigation.

Maybe updating howto:pools with that information..?

It sort of already is...

From Howto:Pools...

What Pools Are For

  • Doujins, comic series, and other groups of images that go in a specific order.

By the above logic, image sequences of any length should always have a pool.

That's why I said using parent/child relationships was only "tolerable" for those with a length of 2.

Yes.
Maybe include the number somewhere.

"Doujins, comic series, and other groups of images that go in a specific order. The order should consist of three posts or more. Do otherwise create a parent-child relationship."

Or maybe it's making this stuff only unecessarily complicated :p.
