Frequently misused tags

Posted under General

So... there's a couple of tags which have been bugging me due to their subjectivity, but since there's room for disagreement I thought I'd start a topic about it before going and trying to clean them up. It's finals week for me too, so if we come to some sort of consensus and anyone else wants to do the honors, that would be appreciated.

  • tsundere/yandere - Sometimes applied to characters who are famously tsundere/yandere even if they aren't actually acting that way in the image. Perhaps there need to be some standards, too (does merely frowning with a blush constitute a tsundere action, or holding anything with a sharp edge a yandere one?)
  • you gonna get raped - Entertaining, but way too broad. Under this tag we've got... menacing shadows, psychotic facial expressions, scared facial expressions, pervy artist self-inserts, girls who actually are gonna get raped, and more. so moe i'm gonna die! was trimmed back to posts which were actually related to the meme, so perhaps it'd be best if this one were too? It'd be a shame, but I can't think of any way to define its essence other than 'funny images only.'

Well... I don't think it's a bad tag, but maybe its purpose isn't clear. ruined_for_marriage is similar to you_gonna_get_raped in that it's "funny images only", but people seem to get that one.

I agree with you on tsundere/yandere, it should be about pictures where the character acts out this trait, not a character who is "usually" this trait--that's not what you want to see when you browse that tag. I'm not sure where to draw the line though, since it differs per person.

As Surasshu said, you_gonna_get_raped was, much like ruined_for_marriage, originally intended just for funny/amusing images with a menacing atmosphere, but I guess at some point people started taking the tag name too literally and then ran with that idea.

Personally I'd vote for having the tag cleaned up & returned to its roots, along with re-writing the wiki entry to make it clear that it's for comedy images only.

Standards for tagging with tsundere and yandere should be fairly strict. Either the image needs to be explicitly about the concepts themselves, or the image has to involve clear actions, usually with text on the image where they're saying something to that effect.

Basically, if you're at all unsure about it, then it probably shouldn't be used on that image.

Well, after reading this thread, I agree it's time to remove the tag you gonna get raped in pictures wherein the person in the image sees that the commission the deed is imminent and the one about to commit the deed does not need to be present (for example: a blushing girl already restrained and with her legs already spread). My suggestion for such images is about to be raped. I've already done so in my posts with the "you gonna get raped" tag (except for post #312091 because it fits the definition in the Wiki).

post #312091 is really a good example of the you_gonna_get_raped tag used appropriately. I'm not sure how I feel about your suggestion for the new tag--it seems to be a bit confusing to distinguish between the two unless you already know.

As for tsundere, the wiki does describe what a tsundere picture would look like quite well in my opinion. I think most cases it would have to be a comic or something with some expositional text of some sort, such as post #335743 and post #311134, but there are the occasional exceptions, like post #246254.

Yandere, then--post #116656 to me doesn't really look all that yandere. It's a girl holding a cleaver, she doesn't look like she's about to kill someone because love drove her insane, but more like she wants to carve a chicken but isn't sure how it's done. (I haven't seen that show though so I assume she really does go insane at that point, and that's why the tag is there.) Yandere is really in the insane eyes/smile, to me, not so much whether they're holding a weapon/are bloody (though it does help). For instance, post #317700.

That's the problem with these tags, a lot rides on context. Someone who has seen the show would tag that yandere without a second thought, someone who hasn't would wonder what the fuck it's doing there.

That's why I agree with your comments about when to assign tsundere, and think the exact same standards apply to yandere.

rape_bait sounds a bit like the character's trying to get raped, rather than just being exposed, so I think I prefer imminent_rape slightly. I'm still not 100% happy with it but it's better to have something imperfect than nothing at all.

rape_time

Kidding.

On a more serious note, I noticed the wet tag seems to be misused as of late. At least it is if we go strictly by the wiki page (which specifically says that pussy_juice does not count). I cleaned it up a little bit, but then I got distracted and quit.
