Comment threshold

Comments made to posts with more than 20 comments will no longer bump the post in comment/index.

But what if some new information turns up months later? Eg, a source that people had been looking for without success is finally found and posted in the comments.

I guess the question to ask is, does that happen often enough (the rare times comments get that high) to be more important than cutting down on spam?

Could go either way. Right now it's probably worth letting it keep bumping, as spam is still rare. Either way works for me though.

I don't think it's meant to be an anti-spam measure. If you get 20 spam comments on a post, the damage is already done.

Done for that post, but it won't constantly be bumped to the top of the Comments page. Not that it's too hard for them to recognize this and move to another post, I imagine. Still, I haven't seen the major spamming like that lately, maybe Albert did something about it (besides this).

Oh, and some of those damn "it's wonderful!" memefests could have used it =P

There was a feature I requested (inspired by a certain Bottle Fairy image) that restricted the number of comments per image that appeared on the comment index, and it was implemented for a while at least.

I think I've bumped this up to 40 now. This is mainly to fend off noise. I doubt a post with more than 40 comments has anything more meaningful to say.
