They're being quite constructive, actually. Things go quite smoothly in cases like that.

Welcome to the site, Moe Ashi.

I personally don't see an issue with using those names, given the reasoning.

Well, I have.
Those names aren't used anywhere on the Pokéwikis (Bulbapedia for example).
Instead they have the name Sun/Moon. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Sun_(game)
I don't know how they got this name, but apparantly that's also the name given to him in the manga.

Same with You/Moon (female protagonist)

Look at the trivia sections on their bulbapedia pages. And the manga always uses the names of the games as the characters, like they call Serena "Y" in the manga. And shouldn't we use what Pixiv uses?

@Jarlath XD pssh try telling that to type-kun and saladofstones...I dare you.

I'm going to point to the forum rules again and I'll leave it at that. Your topic is still there for all to see.

To the OP:
Outside of the PV, do we have anything from official manga?

Like I said, the manga always names the main characters based off the game names. For example, Serena is known as Y in the manga, but we don't call her Y on here.

I've seen the protags called Elio/Selene or Kai/Lana, but not You/Mizuki. To me, they look like placeholders than anything truly official, which is why it's under "Trivia" in Bulbapedia. We also generally don't follow what Pixiv do with tags, since tagging over there is basically arbitrary.

At this point I'm considering aliasing to sun_(pokemon) and moon_(pokemon). The game's been out for a while, and short of an anime appearance, I doubt they'll get official names like previous protagonists anytime soon.

From my experience, it seems like the Japanese community has decided on You and Mizuki, while the English-speaking community is mostly calling them Sun and Moon. Since we've standardized tagging the human characters by their Japanese names, wouldn't it make the most sense to alias to You and Mizuki, if anything?

We could just leave the tags as is, though, like with female protagonist (persona 3).

Almost every piece of Japanese fanart I've seen where their name is mentioned, it's You/Mizuki. Since we go by the Japanese names, I think we should use them on here.

We even already have those names listed as the official japanese names on here on the wiki pages linking to their Pixiv pages:

As long as their are not official, I don't really see any reason to alias them to those names.

Feline Lump's suggestion is probably the best or we just alias them to the manga counterpart's names, since that's the only official source we have.

Regarding this PV: This thing is from June. So it is a really, really early version and since it doesn't appear anywhere afterwards, I just see it as a placeholder.

The reason we should use it is because of the sheer amount of people in the Japanese and even Korean communities that use it, it's not just Pixiv. They've become the accepted names over there. Just look up translated + female_protagonist_(pokemon_sm) on here, the name pops up everywhere. Also, you and mizuki have kanji spellings that mean sun and moon respectively, so I'd say they're about as official as the names Sun and Moon are.

Updated

That was also possible with the protagonists in X/Y. And since they have an official artwork, I don't see this reason holding water.
But regarding @Saladofstones : What is about the mentioned Manga countarparts which are called Sun/Moon? I honestly don't have any idea how Manga names are treated here, but to me they look exactly the same as in the official artwork^^.
