Aliasing haruka_(pokemon) to sapphire_(pokemon).

Reason: Manga (game?) name.

Aliasing cynthina_(pokemon) to shirona_(pokemon).

Reason: Original JP name (I'm not too sure about this one. Maybe Cynthina is the romanization of Shirona).

If we’re already using the slightly more obscure Japanese names, might as well go all the way and use the originals. In any case, a lot of the art for the characters that are not prominent in the anime (the male characters, rivals, females not named Misty/Mai/Dawn, most of which are one-shot cameos) are all based on the game/manga characters.

HOWEVER, and I swear I hate to play devil’s advocate AGAIN, there’s one particular point that I can’t quite agree on: red_(pokemon)->satoshi_(pokemon). More or less everyone else is visually indistinguishable between the anime/game/manga versions, but Red (the main character in Pokemon Special and the nameless main character in the game) does actually look reasonably different from Ash in clothing and haircut. You can still search for Red exclusively by adding pokemon_special to the criteria (provided people remember to tag their posts with it, which I’ve seen several people forget to do), but I thought it was worth bringing it up.

Also, is it me or ash_ketchum and gary_oak aren’t aliased to satoshi and green?

Apparently albert went through satoshi_(pokemon) recently and changed them all to red_(pokemon) which is wrong. Satoshi (Ash) is the anime character and Red is the character in the original games who also appears in Brawl. They look very different.

It seems you posted while I was writing so I'd like to sclear something up on my opinion: Unlike memegui, Red is the ONLY one I think deserves his own tag. While everyone else's personality certainly does differ, there's really no significant visual difference between any of them unless you get extremely anal (i.e. Green has a tendency to wear a dusty traveler cloak over his purple sweater, whereas Gary does not).

Don't misunderstand. That is exactly what I think. Every other character should have the names of the characters from the games.

I have also been thinking of something for some time now. Minor Pokémon characters like gym leaders have a minute role in the games and apparently not a much bigger one in the anime. Every Pokémon character other than May, Misty and Dawn have very few pictures on Danbooru. For example, Roxanne (tsutsuji_(pokemon)) has only 3 images, now Gardevoir, which has 21, has her name is in english like we decided, so why should a less popular character keep their japanese name?

I agree. Satoshi =/= Red. They're both different characters and each of them deserve a different tag.

@memegui: I don't know about this one... I think is better to use the english names for the pks (because they are a lot more common for all of us), but for trainers, etc, JP names are better.
I can't give a good reason for that... personal taste I think.

That was me. In lieu of standing aliases/implications, I jihaded everything. To retribute, I could go through and apply "satoshi_(pokemon)" to everything that's distinctly Ash.

Alright, I've applied haruka and satoshi to many images, anything that I'm not convinced being sapphire or red (often these will carry both tags). Someone'd have to go through and confirm 'em, though, esp. the grass-kini May pics, since one was tagged with pokemon_special while the other was plain. Also, the tags will sort red_hair after red_(pokemon), but they're switched in the Edit box.

Please next time refrain from doing such mass editing.
I know that your intention is good, but is bothersome to correct them all over again (even if you do it yourself).
If you want to do something like that, create a new thread here asking for the change.

The grass bikini is from the manga, but is there any point to having separate tags? As I said before, other than Red/Satoshi, everyone else looks EXACTLY the same in both versions.

And for future reference: Red's hair is pointed to the front, hat doesn't have any design on it and his jacket is red. Moreover, he's rarely if ever depicted with anyone from the usual cast from the anime, usually being shown along with the color-theme-named main characters. It's a given that if you see someone like Kasumi in the image with her anime clothes, it's Satoshi.

Actually there is a difference in appearance between Blue and Leaf. Probably some others I can't think of right now.

As for the other characters, for whom there IS no difference in appearance between the anime/manga and game, then I support just having one tag for the character, which would be the name from the games.
