Cropped thumbnails

Posted under General

They are now mandatory in responsive mode, despite the user settings. I don't quite know how I feel about this yet... I took the following screenshots.

All of the pictures form a continuous collage. It's a little hard to pick out individual pics, and the image borders are also difficult to make out. It also doesn't play well with the additional borders my custom CSS puts in for my own uploads.

What do others think though...? Especially from those that use the mobile mode instead of the desktop mode like myself.

I’m on a desktop only and I turned it off immediately (once the bug was fixed) because I want to see what I’m getting into and I can’t stand all the chopped-off heads. I know that this is Boobbooru, but I still want to see the characters’ heads.

See also my comment on post #2853340. Corresponding thumbnails: chop and chop.

See also my comment on post #2853340. For some reason, enabling cropped thumbnails doesn’t work for me, so I can’t link the cropped thumbnail for it at the moment. id:2853340 for anyone who has cropped thumbnails on.

BTW, you can be in responsive mode (from a PC) just by shrinking the window down to less than 660 pixels wide. What's amazing is that it switched between both thumbnails without missing a beat. So I'm guessing that Danbooru is sending both sizes of thumbnails regardless, and the responsive CSS (maybe also some Javascript) switches between the two...?

Huh, didn’t know that 660px thing... It seems that now the cropped thumbnail is simply a CSS-cropped version of the uncropped thumbnail, so your browser only loads one image and displays it differently. Looks like the setting for cropped thumbnails is being ignored again. Independent of the setting, I always get cropped thumbnails if I shrink my browser below 660px width and I always get uncropped thumbnails when it’s wider.

Here’s how the thumbnail I was referring to looks when cropped: chopchop, off with her head.
There seems to be less beheading going on than when cropped thumbnails were just introduced, though.

Ah, sorry, I didn't realize I had pasted a regular preview thumbnail...

For some reason, chrome doesn't like those images, wanting to download them instead of displaying them in the browser...

Regardless, that CSS thing you were talking about is what I was referring to... I'm not sure how I feel about it's looks, but if it's just done with CSS, I can just override it with my custom CSS if necessary...
