Moderation changes

Edit: After seeing the amount of 2D porn in the mod queue, I have sympathy for the rest of the moderators/janitors who do their job. Kind of horrifying.

Agreed. I now have a better understanding of how the mod queue works and what kinds of posts tend to be hidden and what not. If I could suggest one feature, it would be that flagged posts must have reason field filled. It makes it difficult to moderate if you don't know what you're supposed to be looking for (some things are more obvious than others).

The comment moderation looks like it needs more TLC than the post moderation. It's a bit overwhelming.

I never realized how long and kind of full of crap the moderator queue was.

Getting to the topic at hand I'm in the majority that thinks that this is a very bad idea. Having more people with the ability to approve images will not improve the quality of what makes it through, quite the opposite actually. This, if anything, will just make more conflict over what deserves to be approved and what doesn't.

And this isn't even counting people who might also be contributors but that are also friends with non-contributor users. While it would be nice to say that cases of favouritism wouldn't pop up, with so many more people in the loop now it's far more likely to happen than before.

Yeah, this has been long requested though some do object that sometimes it really is obvious and entering a reason takes too much time. I still wish there were a reason there though.

It's impossible, don't bother. It sounds flippant but I'm serious. Excessive shitty comments should just get negs, and eventually bans. The comment queue is too difficult right now.

Needs post links. Context is useful, sometimes...

There are comments flagged from 3 years ago such as in post #38151 and seemingly benign comments like T5J8F8's comment in post #542956. There are also inflammatory comments like bigotkillerx's comment in post #547406. There are multiple comments flagged like the examples listed. I also don't understand what the difference between approve and delete is either. Is the comment being approved to stay or be deleted?

Surprisingly for me though, the comment moderation queue actually looks shorter than I ever imagined it would be, considering the age of Danbooru and the amount of stupid I see being posted as comments.

Same here. I'm actually afraid to even touch majority of the thing Janitor/Mods have at their disposal in fear I might do something I will regret later on in life. Personally I would glad to see this change reverted and discussed before ever doing it again thought hopefully not before I can get a chance to delete all the flagged post that were posted by me. I assume it's okay to delete one's own post if it's been flagged.

Approve == stays, delete == gone for good. But as I said, don't touch it, the comment moderation queue is fundamentally broken right now. It does more harm than good.

Don't bother with the comments. Not only is it impossible, you actually remove evidence of stupid by the worst offenders, which is counter-productive.

I understand now. I wasn't planning on touching anything I didn't fully understand.

Well, individual approve/delete/hide links and the ability to hide from post view (to those below comment moderation level) instead of outright deletion might help.

I agree that this setup shouldn't remain in the long term, but am I the only one who thinks this could be a good way to choose new janitors? Sure, it'll require a lot of cleaning up after those unruly few who will approve everything they see, but it'll also tell you which users have good judgment and will take the time to go through the mod queue on a regular basis, without having to rely solely on recommendations from current mods and janitors to find those users. (Not that their recommendations wouldn't be good; this way just seems more inclusive.)

Curiosity is overwhelming so I guess I'll take a look at the queue, but other than that, I can't rightly oppose this decision and use the powers in the meantime.

But the moment albert says it's here to stay I'm going to get to work. My 309 peers will need all the help they can get.

EDIT: Question: Is the moderation queue much smaller because of this change? Because it really doesn't look like the kind of thing 32 people couldn't handle.

Hmmm, I like what I'm seeing. Good quality content is being approved a lot faster than before, while the approval or disapproval of crappy content pretty much seems the same.

So far, it looks like Albert's experiment is going relatively well. Nothing terrible has happened... yet.
